Soluble nitrogen from the protein California already throws away.
BioSource Nutrients turns clean food-processing proteins into a concentrated liquid nitrogen for drip and fertigation on organic farms.
Organic growers are short of soluble nitrogen. Processors are long on protein.
Every ton of protein left over from food processing carries nitrogen that an organic crop can use. Today most of it is rendered, hauled or composted. We recover it as a fertilizer.
California's target cut in organic waste sent to landfill, against 2014 levels, under SB 1383. Processors need outlets for protein by-products.
Organic nitrogen that dissolves and filters is the hard part. Most organic nitrogen sources are solids that cannot go through an emitter.
From by-product to fertigation-grade liquid in four steps
Collect
Clean, source-separated protein by-products from food processors close to the plant, kept chilled and traced to the source load.
Hydrolyze
Food-grade enzymes break the protein into amino acids and short peptides at mild temperature. No strong acid, no synthetic nitrogen.
Separate
Solids are removed and go to compost. The nitrogen stays in the liquid.
Concentrate
The liquid is concentrated and filtered into a stable, pumpable product with a consistent analysis.
Process details are proprietary.
Built for organic programs on California specialty crops
Berries, vegetables, vineyards and orchards on drip need nitrogen they can inject and trust. That is the product we are designing.
Goes through the drip line
A filtered, water-soluble liquid sized for injection systems, micro-sprinklers and foliar use.
Chosen for organic review
Every input and processing aid is selected for OMRI and CDFA organic input review. Listing will be in place before the first sale.
Nitrogen you can trace
Each lot is tied to its source loads and a nitrogen mass balance, the documentation organic inspectors ask for on high-nitrogen liquids.
Made close to the farm
Produced in Southern California from local by-products, in bulk totes and drums for distributors and direct accounts.
The product is in development. Join the trial list to receive demonstration samples and the first analysis.
Nitrogen is worth more on the farm than at the renderer
BioSource Nutrients is building the first plant behind existing food-waste processing infrastructure, so capital goes into the product train and not into receiving, depackaging or site work.
